What to look for when choosing ski boots
Ski boots are probably the most important part of your gear. Even the best skis won't help if your boots aren't right.

1. Size and fit
- The boots should hug your foot snugly, but must not cause pain.
- When trying them on, wear ski socks and step into the boots – your toes should lightly touch the front when you stand upright.
2. Stiffness (flex index)
- Beginners: Softer boots (flex 60–80) for comfort and easier skiing.
- Intermediate skiers: Medium-stiff boots (80–100) for more stability.
- Advanced skiers and racers: Stiffer boots (100+) for precise power transfer.
3. Inner boot (liner)
A quality liner moulds to your foot over time. On better models the liner can also be heat-moulded for a perfect fit.
4. Buckle system
Most boots have 3–4 buckles and an extra power strap for better hold. Make sure you can fasten them easily even with gloves on.
